Audi Q7 V8 Oil Leak
Hi, my 07 Q7 V8 Tdi has an oil leak when I’m under the car and wash it all off and leave it running it won’t leak take it up the road come back and put it on the ramp will be oil there again from what I can tell I think it’s coming from the right hand side of the engine bay if your looking from under the bonnet.
I just wondered if anybody knew what the most common oil leaks on these bigger engines can be so I can start looking in them areas
I service the engine every 4000 miles so it’s looked after extremely well!
Thanks

You need to trace the source of the oil. I will use my phone to record a video when I need to hunt in tight places it is hard to get eyes on and then watch the video to see what I've found. I've read posts suggesting the valve covers are a source for leaks over time on the TDIs. Usually the head and valve covers should be inspected closely if it is coming from the top of the engine. If it is coming from lower on the engine you would want to make sure a crank seal isnt leaking.

Hi
Thanks for the reply
I don’t think it’s coming from crank seal area as it’s to high for that I will have a minor strip down and check valve covers and heads

I've had oil leaks from the oil separator, which is located on the back of the engine on the drivers side at the top. I've also had a leak from the oil filter housing, which leaks down into the V of the engine, and eventually down the front. Those are the two that I typically hear about early on, and then of course valve cover gaskets as the engine ages, which I haven't had yet.
