Default Garage door opener (HomeLink)....Retro fit ?

The only two options we didn't get on our Q7 were AMI and Garage Door Opener.

AMI is being covered on other threads but does anyone know if the Garage Door Opener can be retro fitted ? My dealer says the "sender" is in the lights so theres lots of wiring to do so no retro fit will be available but I though these modules just pluged in and the signal was sent from the module it's self in the roof ?

Anyone know anything ?

Thanks
Si

Default Unfortunately, the transmitter is in the bumper/headlight area

As part of the programming, you have to aim your existing remote at the bumper, just inboard of the (lower?) corner of your driver's-side headlight assembly.

Different from our other vehicles which were self-contained in the roof unit, as you stated.

My Q7 didn't have the homelink either so I used some velcro tape and installed the remote that came with my opener in the little sunglass compartment overhead. Much cleaner than hanging from the sunvisor

Default Funny you should say that

Cause we have done the same thing but I've very very very lazy and having to open the sunglasses compartment and press the button seems like a lot of work.

I've just e-mail MITO as they do replacement interior mirrors that have Homelink built in. Lets see if they produce an Audi Q7 direct replacement

Default Very much doubt it would be practical or possible to rewire car, but ...

... recently saw an ad by Prince Corporation in one of the enthusiast magazines for - get this - a three button Homelink that clips to the visor like a regular garage door opener. Not the best solution, but it's something at least.

Default hey - can you rig that sunglass holder so that all you have to do is to press it

and it'll activate the garage door opener?

i think that would be a pretty neat mod...

Default Push-pin on transmitter...

Basically something that adds some thickness to the transmitter button and allows it to be depressed just enough without causing the holder to open.

Alternatively, you could dremel a hole in the sunglass holder itself to allow access to the tranmitter button. Use cloth/rubber to "dress up" the hole.

Just some thoughts on a Friday...

Default that's what i'm thinking... hell - if there are any electronics geeks on here, they can probably

make a complete home link to replace the sunglass holder thing!
