Initial aesthetic thoughts on new 2011 Q7.
I thought I'd share some of my thoughts with my 1 week old 2001 Q7 TFSI S-Line. As much as it is obviously understood that it is indeed quicker than the 3.6, here are the little touches i really notice:
- When starting up the car, it is a MUCH quieter startup. Twice i thought i had to start the car again because i wasn't sure if it started.
- The 12v ***** now have a finish similar to the MMI rotary ****. Very nice touch.
- The MMI rotary **** clicks more quietly. The 07 was loud enough to almost be annoying (to me)
- When you activate your turn signals, it is a softer, relaxing sound, compared to the almost tinny, "echoey" sound of the 07's.
- the seat adjustment ***** are nicely designed with the aluminum looking edges
- the seats feel more countoured. I suspect it might be actually be coming from an 07 w/ 50k miles, and just getting into a new seat, but i never remember them feeling as contoured and supportive.
- This rig is very quiet. Again, the newness (and tighness) may be a factor here, as well as new OEM tires, but, i really enjoy the solitude in a vehicle of this size.
- The interior ambient lighting is awesome. Makes it feel like they stuffed an A8 interior inside my Q7.
- the ECO feature in the DIS is is neat. I know it is not new, but still, neat.
- The cornering lights really work well. When they first came on, i was wondering when the city put up a street light at the small intersection i was turning at, just to notice that the Q7 had these.
- Here's somehting that's either new, or i didn' know about on my '07...the adapative lights DEACTIVATE if you change your headlight setting from Auto to ON.
- The 8-speed is smooooooooth. It is not obtrusive, and keeps the engine right it's sweet spot under mild acceleration.
all in all, this is a great "rig." What's more impressive is that this 2011 MSRP's only $4100 more than my 2007 3.6 Premium, and this is what i got over and above the 07:
- supercharged V6 (at least 53 mre hp...these motors are underrated...)
- improved gas mileage
- 8-speed tiptronic (vs 6)
- panoramic sunroof
- side and rear shades
- 3G MMI
- improved Radio (HD Radio, traffic, ipod connectivity--no, my 07 did not have the IPOD connector... early model)
- 4 zone climate control
- heated AND cooled seats
- LED Lighting
- S-Line interior appointments
- upgraded towing package
And with any general pricing increase over the last 4 years, this is very well priced.

We just went from an '07 to an '11 (TDI) as well, and I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Feels so much more improved in so many ways than I was expecting.

sorry- the Economy display setting that shows in the driver information screen between the speedo and tach. It will tell you what items in the car are contributing to gas consumption (A/C, heated seats on, rear defrost, etc...), and will occasionally provide tips on how to improve mileage.
For example, if your A/C is on, and one (or more) windows are open, it will suggest to you to close your windows....
just a neat little feature....

Yeah, the adaptive headlights did not deactivate in the 2008 either, that seems to be a new thing. Not sure why you wouldn't want your headlights to point where you are going but at least it's there if you need it.
I am hoping the quiet cabin stays quiet over time... I really hope so, because I love it and I hated the noise in the 2008 3.6 (except for the engine growl, which I liked).
Do you have the Warm Weather Package then? Did you notice that you don't have heated mirrors? I didn't notice till I was in Tahoe and it was 14 degrees.
