2011 Q7: Closing the power liftgate makes motor like sound when it is latching down.. button on the tailgate works to close the tailgate but it always makes motor sound. Indicator inside the console shows red on the liftgate but actually liftgate is closed. So basically two problems: motor sound when closing and red indicator in the console.

I showed to local dealer and he diagnosed this problem to the bad striker. But he was charging $600 for fixing it - $400 for the part and $200 for the labor.. i already paid 150 for diagnosis. I took it back as not sure if it is worth the cost.

So I need help in figuring out what exact part I need to buy and how to replace it (if i can do it myself).

I researched and seems like there are 2 different parts available on audi website when searching for striker: 8P4827507 and 4F9827383G. Not sure which one to buy? from where to buy it and can I replace it? any instructions will help.

I had this issue with my Q7. It was neither of those parts. It was the latch in the tailgate section.


If you open the access panel on the middle of the tailgate you can see the latch. There is a small lever for manually opening the gate. Sometimes I could get mine working again by moving this lever a few times. There is a part of the latch that wears and gets stuck.

Thanks for the reply. Your Q7 was also making that weird sound when closing and red indicator was still on even though its actually closed? I will try that manual moving of level and see if that fixes issue temporarily. If you have instructions for replacing this part then please share.

I just tried moving that lever (I suppose you were talking about white color lever inside very small opening) but that did not help.. unfortunately that white lever came off .. now i will have to open to put it back.
