Default Opinion: Tire damage

Does this tire need replaced? This car cut over into my lane forcing me to hit the curb. The cut is about 1/4" thick near the sidewall. I didn't see it initially...

Can't really tell from your pic. The main issue is whether that gash got down to any cords/steel belts. If not you can probably run that for a while. But if any belts are exposed you'll need to replace the tire. Any tire shop should be able to advise you better than a bunch of people on a forum looking at a single picture. If it were me I'd probably replace it just to be on the safe side, especially if the tire is new or nearly new. If there is too much wear the tire shop may require you to replace all four because it's AWD, although your local laws may be different than they are where I live.

I've got a long trip on Satuday, dont want to risk it. I guess I'm going to have to get a shop to look at it. All 4 tires have less than 5k, since I've had to replace them all under the roadhazard for various reasons.

You can't possibly know the extent of damage based on that pic. Giving people advice based on your own experiences is one thing. But giving advice on a safety related issue requires more than a casual look at a pic. It's entirely possible the OP could run that tire for years and never have an issue. But if the damage goes deep enough, it's also possible the tire could fail unexpectedly in the near future which could result in an accident, injury, and even a fatality.

I had it looked at, they said it was OK, told me to glue or cut off the shred.

Next time I'll post a closer picture.

I'm thanking the Lord I'm moving from this city on Saturday. People do not pay attention whatsoever. I've never experienced worse driving, lol...

Great news for once! I would opt to glue it down with tire adhesive as opposed to cutting it off.

I would move it to the rear wheels just in case.
