Default vag-com ver 704.1

I just got my vag-com ver 704.1, I'm new I want to know when you first plug it into the Q7 and start using the Vag-Com should the key be in the ignition and the engine running or does the Q7 have to be off?

Any tip will be appreciated.
thanks

I shouldn't matter either way as I've done it both ways many time though I typically plug it to the Q7 with the ignition off (the engine doesn't have to be running)

One more question does`the key have to be in the ignition or it also doesn't matter?

Appendix B: VAG-COM FAQ 2.4 Is the car's ignition in the ON position?
Short answer yes - because it takes its power from the car. Nothing will happen until you turn ignition on.

Ignition (not engine) needs to be on. Some modules don't have power until the ignition is on, so they can't communicate.

Yes you said it more clearly. Its amazing how subtle changes in English can mean different things on either side of the Atlantic.
"turn ignition on" over here means just just the ignition not the engine. I would have to say "start the car" or "running" to mean engine running.
