Default Will 295/40/20 fit on S-Line?

Currently running stock Conti 275/45/20 which are thankfully wearing - so noisy and wash out badly when pushing on. Thre's better pricing on a wide variety of 295/40/20 showing on TireRack.
The question is will they fit the standard 20" S-Line wheel and not rub the car?
Thanks all.

Do the 295/40/20 fit on the stock 20" S-Line wheels?

Hmmm... 2 seperate issues Rubbing and rims.
S-line 5 spoke are 9J, 275 is standard on them. 295 is listed standard for 10J Fuel flap gives pressure for 295x40x20 so does manual but neither specifies rim. I checked my original sales blurb but it was actually incorrect as it gave 295x55x20 as an option showing standard rim... WAAAAAY OUT.
I know the 295x40x20 will clear for rubbing. It is a factory option on the 10J rim

Looks like you are correct to query about it being too wide for 9Js. Shouldnt a tire fitter know this anyway?

I dont see why they wouldnt. Installed a set of 295/45/20's and they fit fine with 20x9.5 wheels. The 295/40/20's look to be the same width but slightly shorter.

It seems strange that both 295 and 275 can fit the same wheels. How is that?

I am not sure what you are asking. Many different sizes can fit a wheel. For example, my first SUV ran 235/75/15's on stock 15x7 wheels. After running the super skinny tires I installed a set of 31x11.50x15's (over an inch taller and over 2 inches wider). You obviously cannot put a 20" tire on an 18" wheel. But there are lots of different sizes you can run on the same wheel. Tire Rack & Discount Tire Direct actually give different size choices while still using stock wheels etc. Hope that helps.
