Default Camera washers - please

New challenge to engineers. After a long drive to Colorado in all sorts of nasty weather, I realized that camera washing is now a new maintenance task. Coming from a Volvo wagon with much better visibility and a Chevy van with much larger mirrors, I've gotten to like the cameras. MB and VW already have camera protectors for rear cameras. Come on, Audi. Catch up!

As a low tech solution, I usually take a napkin, wet one end of it and walk around the Q and wet/dry wipe all 4 cameras when they get dirty. I usually have water and napkins in the car.

A Lincoln I had a while ago was the worse. So every time I walked past the back, I would just rub off the dirt with my finger. After a year of doing this, the camera became blurry. I took a better look one day and saw the lens was getting scratched. I guess it was from me wiping dirt off of the thing for so long. Just a heads up. I'm still doing the same thing with the Q but I plan on trading it in in about 18,000 miles so I do not care.

That would be the salt and dirt scratching the camera, and the Q will fall victim to that as well. Thats why I use a wet towel, and I place it on the camera for a few seconds to loosen the dirt and gently remove it. That may be helping a bit

The new Q5 has a washer on the rear camera. My 2017 Q7 didn’t but I’m surprised the 2018/2019s don’t.
I hadn’t thought about it until this thread posted but I’ll have to check my Q8 & see if it has one.
