Re piston soak. Is this procedure well known by now that independent (USA) repair shops might offer the service?

Yes - like I said the shop that fixed our Q7 went from thinking it was kind of a gimmick with only anecdotal evidence behind effectiveness to basically telling me that it’s gonna be pretty much automatically recommended to anyone who brings their car in with more than like 80k miles on it - bc the cost-benefit is insane (200-300 bucks for a soak to avoid potentially needing an new engine or at minimum a costly refurb on valves/pistons/etc.)

Default borescope visual. 107000. Audi 3.0 issues.

closer look at piston.

burned broken exhaust valve

piston piece missing ring visable.
piston piece missing ring visable.
same look at exhaust. 3 cylinder.
same look at exhaust. 3 cylinder.
Light tension piston rings and direct injection issues along w long interval oil changes has caused many issues.
Engine toast here.
I have another 2017 w 106000 on it. Trying engine oil flush. bg44k clean up of injectors and 2 oil changes of 5w30 valvoline Restore and protect at 5000 miles. Then switch back to Motul 0w40 clean oil. Dont buy the lie. These 3.0 have REAL issues.

All are facing issues tdy. just ask Toyota, GM, Ford to name a few. Thousands of engine recalls!! 333 hp out of a 3.0 liter, Who woulda thunk it!
