Does my 2017 Audi Q7 3.0T really need an engine replacement?
But after reading on this forum and seeing all kinds of very complex issues and part failures that are unheard of on Hondas, I'm kind of scared of owning an Audi.
I maybe considering other cars ie Lexus ES and at least that has a spare tire and doesn't have run-flat tires which I have found to be extremely rough and noisy.
So I'm wondering what the attraction is in owning an Audi?

Lexus ES is a great automobile....for my father who just wants a "nice" A to B transportation appliance. German cars are typically just a different level than Lexus. And yes- there is a reliability weakness that doesn't compare to a typical Lexus. But let's be honest, Lexus isn't the bulletproof brand it had been for decades.
You may want to post your discussion in the B10 A5 forum for best practise and most appropriate responses. For example the B10 A5 does not have the CREC 3.0T engine.

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
It's been a while, this project had to wait a bit. I did the B12 piston soak on the ebay engine while I had the engine on a stand. I turned the engine to soak each bank with the pistons in a horizontal position. Did them each twice letting them soak down, I notice a lot of carbon flaking off the valves and combustion dome. with the exhaust manifold off and the exhaust valves open it seemed prudent to blow out the extra carbon. It will use a cheap synthetic for the first couple hundred miles, then change to the Valvoline R&P.
The tech at the Audi dealer that I bought the engine from confirmed, that yes, this is a known problem with these engines. He also mentioned that a piston soak would help with the oil burning problem.
As of this last weekend, the Q7 is up on my lift, I'm starting the process of the engine swap via a drop to a metal table on wheels. I hope to be driving on all 6 operational cylinders soon.
AW has been a great source of information.... Thanks.
