Default Lane keep assist frequently ask for steering input?

I love the lane keep assist feature on my new Q7, but all too often it asks me to put hands on the wheel. Most of the time my hands are already on the wheel. I just didn't need to move the steering wheel for a few seconds because of a straight stretch of road. This safety feature quickly becomes annoying. Is there a way to make the warning less frequent/disabled? Thanks in advance.

Grasp the wheel a bit more firmly. That's all I need to do...

Where are you holding the wheel. I think if it's not on the sides it may not detect you're holding it.

It does not detect the presence of your hand on the wheel. It detects very small steering inputs (or resistance to its inputs) called "counter steer". So the position of your hand does not matter. You could have one finger on an inner spoke and as long as you are exerting some rotational pressure, it will sense that you are there.

There is a coding change you can make that will increase the time out delay a little bit.

In OBD11:

Module: A5/Front Sensor Driver Asst
Adaptation: Dir. Stab. Assist Driver Inact Deact Threshold
Old value: Medium
New value: Late

Aha! This totally might work! I'll order an OBD11. Thanks Rick!

0BD 11 is nice to have, but be aware that the change to the time parameter is not very dramatic.

Thanks for this, I figured after 150 mile trip that it was the counter force keeping the system in check and not holding the steering wheel. I was planning to clamp a fake hand to steering wheel to see if that makes it think I am holding it, but it actually needs some input. Maybe I can tie some weights to the fake hand.
My main complain is how loud the warning chime is when it asks me to take over the steering.
