Default Maps on Dash screen

If I use google maps or waze via android auto or carply, does this map show up on the driver's display or only on the pop up screen?

this is a 2018 Q7 prestige

Do not have my Q7 yet (being built) but I am pretty sure it is only on the center pop up screen. Of course, if you buy the Audi Connect you will have Google Earth on the driver's display.

That brings up another question for me. If I use Android auto and Google maps on the center pop up screen, do I still get the Audi Connect based nav display on the driver's display?

And no, you can't have the map on the center screen when you use Android auto or car play on the pop up screen. The center screen gets a useless compass... 😡 ... And no nav on the HUD either, unlike the native map system which then has the nav directions available on the HUD.

Well that sucks, even my 2017 Ridgeline gives turns on the driver cluster when using Android Auto.

Since most vehicles are set up so that one can use the phone with the vehicle in bluetooth mode and the factory nav at the same time, I assume the Q7 is no different and in that mode you would have the virtual cockpit/HUD showing factory nav and the MMI showing content from your phone.

Is that correct?

I honestly think that manufacturers are sooner or later going to have to abandon their proprietary systems in favor of phone based. As good as the Audi system is, the phone systems will always be more up to date. In fact, I have to wonder if the future is systems like this:

Polestar Google System
