I was following a newer Chrysler 300 today and it had the exhaust tips that others use, and I really dislike - cutouts in the bumper cover, surrounded by chrome trim, with raw exhaust pipes visible within. Tacky! I prefer the fake Audi tips over those.

Have to disagree. Even Bentley and Rolls do that. It’s infinitely preferable to blocked off faux outlets. Wether the pipe is physically connected to the outlet is academic.
