Default PSA: Tow Hitch Sale

For those of you who did not order the Q7 from the factory with a trailer tow hitch, they are now clearing them out for $99.

I actually called my local Audi dealer parts department to inquire this specifically awhile back when I was sourcing it to do my tow hitch installation. They told me it's just the tow hitch ball mount, which would make sense for the pricing.

Hmm. The site I originally saw this on had an MSRP of $1,050 for the part which would make it the most expensive hitch ball EVER! Some online Audi shops have that original price still and 3rd parties like ECS Tuning list it at $900+ still.

The ball mount is this:

It's $70.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I guess you could always order it, If it's really $99, it would be a steal for someone looking to do the upgrade. Worst case is out $99 :-)

If its not what you think, just return it.

If it's a standard 2" receiver hitch, that's a $30 item anywhere else. The ball adds $5-10. It's not an "Audi" part, 2" receivers are 2" receivers.

Not quite true. Audi specifies that the receiver connection pin distance to the ball must be 6.193" or less. I wish you luck finding a receiver that meets that spec elsewhere, and violate their specs at your own parole. Not worth it to save $30. A sticker on the side of the receiver gives the distances allowed.

Ehhh I’d imagine there are lots of things we don’t do the Audi way with our cars. Like haul a 9000lb forklift or retune the ECU. Most folks figure if it’ll Connet to the car, it’ll pull. And pull it like that for decades.
