Quattro sno!
Hey Peeps,
Bit of a shocker to me, but this past snowstorm in the Sierras has been quite a challenge to the 7.
First,is lowered on HR springs,21" Pirelli Scorpion Winters(like new, few thou miles on them). Car drives like a champ on snowy roads, snowcross rally, no problem. Lower CG and added stiffness improved driving dynamics amazingly. ...But got STUCK in snow few times, incredibly frustrating.
First while trying to park between other cars, front left wheel got over a snowbank. Had to shovel myself out. Took about half an hour, wheels spinning like crazy, but no traction.
second time, due to whiteout blizzard conditions, front wheels went over again some snow, had to be pulled out by a snow plow.
Trying to rock out the car(forward, reverse it) was useles. ESC malfunction went on, then it went off by itself. Car would shut itself into N. Felf like car was on its belly on a pedestal trying to swim itself out, but yo no avail.
So i guess car being lowered had to do with it,impedes the Quattromagic. Higher clearance while driving in snow is desired.
Quite a learning experience.
Hope my pain is your gain(and mine too😂,
Cheers,
Bob
PS:any recommended GREAT winter tires?

We've been through a decent storm last weekend. Got about 12 inches total. Started as sleet/rain/snow mix, ended with all snow. Most of the deposit was heavy snow of a wet kind followed by air temps dropping to single digits by early morning with gusty winds up to 55 mph. I ran out of gas for snowblower (surprise!) and the gas can was empty as well (another surprise!). Drove through an non-plowed street and some barely plowed streets to buy gas with no issues. Not sure why you had problems - perhaps your Q stuck on her belly on top of snow berth? My tires are 18" Blizzak DM-V2.

Wow, those are some wide winter tires. I went with Blizzak DM-V1 (255/55R19) tires - stepping down and being narrower helps with traction considerably in the snow. I guess it's unclear whether your loss of traction was from the tires themselves or getting highsided because of your dropped suspension, in which case changing tires won't help!

Yeah , wide&dropped. Cool, but watchout! In deep snow. Was spinning like crazy. Smelling like burning doughnuts, as 3 of the wheels dug thru ice, down to the road surface. Yet not enough traction to move it out. Surreal, indeed(and very embarrassing, to say the least).
Merci, Candide Thovex, i bought this car because of you!(but still love both

Feels good, though, same Q7 in GBM was lavished as" best Mid-Size Luxury SUV "in CarandDriver- recently- February issue. Good, thorough review, actually. Sans the brake issue(on Natl backorder), i concur.
cheers,
Bob

Jacked mine up to the max Offroad here last week, 12" unplowed, and it came through like a champ getting out of the 'hood to plowed highway - just AS 21"Pirellis.
