Thule vs OEM Crossbars?
#31
Are either the OEM or Thule locked onto the car? Can someone with the right tool remove the entire system and walk away with my rack and bikes ( or whatever) that's mounted on the base system, or is there a key involved?

I have the OEM rack. There's a standard screwdriver-type tool that came with it (it's essentially a hex bit IIRC) to screw the feet to the rails with one bolt for each. The locked feet covers block access to those bolts.

Thule Motion XT XXL compatible with OEM rails?
I have a Thule Motion XT XXL on my Tahoe. Will this box work on my 2019 Q7 with the OEM cross bars? Basically the question is distance from front edge of front rail to the open hatch. Is it 55 inches or more?
Thanks!
Thanks!
yep, OEM are excellent, low profile, the look is solid (unlike the SQ5/Q5 ones, 5hey stick out in a dorky way). Pano clears as well. Happy with them, as you can pick them for as low as 340$(or so at dealer-25% discout). Combined with the super awesome Yakima Lo, it clears my garage door. Can't ask for more.

Also cannot imagine the XXL version of the same box has much different bar spread requirements... best bet if you are worried is call Thule, they are very helpful.

I have the Motion XT XXL and it fits fine on the Thule Aeroblade crossbars - can't see why it won't work with OEM bars.

I know, it's a late reply, but I just started to look into the cross bars. I read, some people here bought the OEM bars for under $300, but dealer sells them for $480. Where do you get them that cheap? I checked with RockAuto.com and they don't even offer any cross bars for Q7.
