Default Tire Question?

Hi,

I currently having original Goodyear All Season
285/45R20 tires on Q7.

When i change all 4 tires, can i change to 285/50R20 tires ?
Will 285/50R20 fit to it ?

Thanks,

Not recommended. You want to stay within ±3% of the original overall diameter and a 285/50R20 would be 3.7%

The 50 tire will also be taller, potentially rubbing on the fender walls. I think the 3% is more to do with speedo accuracy, not necessarily anything other than that.

You can go with 295/45/20 if you like.. In that size you can go with the continental dws 06.. A lot of people have switch to that size and they fit perfect.. I wonder why would you go with a more narrow tire though? This is the first post i have seen where OP is thinking going 275.. Most people just go wider to 295..

Already ordered 285/50r20s before I saw this. Not sure if I'll be able to cancel. If not, does anyone know what modifications (e.g. spacers) are necessary for them to fit on a steel spring suspension?

If able to cancel, does anyone have personal experience/know if either 275/50r20 or 285/45r20 will fit WITHOUT modifications? Trying to, in order:
1) increase comfort (taller sidewall)
2) increase grip/d (wider tire)
3) appearance (wider tire)

Thanks.

I highly recommend a 275/45/20 on the factory 20" wheels. fits perfectly and is like 2/3 the cost of the 285 tires. tire rack themselves recommends this actually. there is no reason for a bigger tire on these cars. it is a 3 row family hauler and the handling differences are negligible going to a bigger tire. hope this helps.

Thanks. Handling is the 2nd of our 3 goals. The first being increased comfort, hence the increased sidewall (50 vs. 45). Basically, I was hoping to go with something taller than the OEM sizing. Thinking I'll compromise with 275/50r20s.

if you have run flats now just going to non-RFT will increase comfort.
