Default Tire vote - Moved to Winter from Paradise

Folks
Here's my dilemma, we just moved to CT from Florida and I need to replace the tires - I want to go AS vs Snow because, honestly, its cheaper and less hassle - get it and forget it.

The tires for my '17 Q7 3.0T PP model (20"s) are hard to come by, but after calling around, I have two options - which would you pick?

1. SCORPION VERDE ALL SEASON RUN FLAT - SIZE: 285/45R20

If you are not willing to go with dedicated winters, then Continental DWS06's, no question. That being said, you can get a set of snow tires (Blizzaks or Nokkian R3 SUVs) on wheels for around $1800. That is about $800 more than a good set of all seasons would cost. Given that the Q7 is a $60k+ car in most cases, $800 seems more than worth it to protect your investment.

Hi. I have the 2017 Q7 (20 inch wheels) that came with the awful GY RF's. I hated them and replaced with the Continental Crosscontact LX Sport. This should have been one of your alternatives. They are the best alternative and are so much better than the GY. Good tread life and not very loud at all. They are NOT RF's, another plus.

I had the pirelli run flats on the x5
great tire and passed thru numerous New England snow seasons

I also know many people who use the factory good year sport all season run flats that came with the car and most say it’s fine even thru New England winters

if you live where roads are not plowed much and you have to be on the road thru lots of untreated secondary roads then yes get dedicated snows

I know people like dws but for me I had two blow outs from modest potholes so never again - they’re too soft on the sidewalls

So, great advice - simple, common sense type stuff - thank you!... Went with 18" blizzak dmv2 and this rim... (265/60/18)

Installed for 1450, plus got $70 rebate ...

I am haunted by not getting them in 19" because its going to look kind of small, but good angel over my other shoulder is telling me the smaller size is more practical for snow ... the 19's are 1600 installed

Am I right to stick with 18s, or 19s a no-brainer?

Personally I’d go with the 19s over 18s. But I went with 20s over 19s.

Is that a matter of taste over function, or is the latter negligible at this size?

Functionally I don't see a huge difference between a 18 and 19. Maybe if you are driving on REALLY bad roads (think Wyoming off the beaten path). The aesthetics of the 19" wheel just look better. I was coming down from a 21" wheel so I didn't want a huge change downward. I've actually started thinking about putting 21" snow tires on my stock wheels and getting a set of 22" wheels for the rest of the year but the cost of 21" winters is a bit more than I want to spend.
