Are all ECU upgrade chips the same?
I'm ready to send out the ECU from my 83 UrQ. Who has the better upgrade chip or are they mostly the same? I've seen 4 companys who sell them from $395 to $595. No one seems to talk too much about this subject (the better chip).

While the results are pretty much the same, the way they are achieved is not.
Most "chips" for the ur q's are component modifications, _not_ EPROM changes. The chips for these ECU's have been NLA for years now, so most tuners simply raise the fuel pump cutoff with some component changes and give you a stiff waste gate spring. While this will arguably give you just as much power as a true EPROM change, it doesn't allow you to do things like fix the lean running condition during warm-up that leads to rough running just after starting, but before the engine is warm and running closed loop. Some tuners may still offer EPROM modifications, either reprogramming your original chip (if it is an EPROM, most are just PROMs), or have some of the old EPROMs.
If you are running a non-stock turbo, like a K24, or have other significant modifications, I would recommend a re-mapped EPROM modification. If the car is fairly stock, any mod from a reputable tuner will suit the purpose.
