I put a turbo motor in my 84 4KQS. With the 4.11 gearing, 5th gear turns 3000 rpm at 60 mph. I like the close ratio gear box in the 4KQS (016 tranny), but would like a taller overdrive 5th gear to lower cruising rpm with the increased torque of the turbo motor. Anyone done this or know of a source for a 5th gear that might work to lower the ratio? I don't want to change the transmission and rear differential but rather just a 5th gear cog replacement.

Do you recommend I remove 5th gear from this transmission and insert into mine? If so what is the ratio for the 5K tranny 5th gear. The rear end final ratio has to match the transmission final ratio, so I've been told if I swap the entire transmission the rear end must be swapped to match. I don't want to lose the close ratio of the first 4 gears in the 4QKS tranny (016).

You can't just replace fifth gear. I mean swap the whole box. It has a 4:11 FD same as the 4kq.
