Default I've heard of Olympic edition urqs, but for Calgary 1988

My mechanic apparently was offered the chance to buy them (There were a few, 6 or so, IIRC) after the Olympics ended. They were supposedly white 1988 Euro urqs for the use of the West German or Austrian team head honchos while they were in Calgary.

Unfortunately he couldn't afford to buy them, so I guess they went back to Europe. They wouldn't have been street-legal in Canada or the US anyways.

I've asked around, and nobody else has heard of these cars. They were probably stock white Euro urqs with an Olympic decal or two on them, not special "editions."

So, I'm quite skeptical about this 1984 US model being an Olympic Edition. There is no visual hint that this car even has anything to do with the Olympics. Nice US-spec urq with neat interior, but that's about it. If there was verifiable documentation to support the claim..... None is mentioned in the auction, though.

Hmm......

Default Still skeptical....

"Original owner" means the seller is a former "director of Audi." Don't think kruser04golf sounds like a former director of Audi! OK, maybe he bought it from the director of Audi. Which means he's not the original owner. Which means maybe he's embellishing a bit. It's an '84. Hey, that was an Olympic year. Hmm, what if I ....?

And where exactly are the brake slave cylinders?

And what's "Olympic Edition" about the car? 2-tone interior made up of chocolate and tan factory parts? White R8s?

Call me jaded, but anything like a claim of a one-off "Olympic Edition" requires serious backup in order for me to consider it more than an attempt at jacking the price. It seems he's already succeeded, though. He has a bid for 10K$, and it's not even high enough for the reserve! For an 85,000 mile car! that doesn't even say it has original paint!

Seems like it MIGHT be a nice 1984 urq. That's it.

My $0.02!

Default Agreed...... sounds like someone is trying to get rich quick.....

Only Olympic Editions (official) I know of were the 5000 turbo quattros in 1988. I have seen both the Avant and Sedan versions.
As MontrealUrq said there is nothing special about this car, other than it's an '84.
Even the interior colors are stock beige/brown...
Maybe it was owned by someone special, granted, however I don't think this person is as famous as Neil Pert for example.

Default I'm guessing. but I think it says Olympic Edition.

I couldn't really make it out. But I think thats what it says, its a pretty long decal. I can't think of anything else that it would say. Hmmmm

Default Hmm, missed that. It's so small in the pics...

But I still think this car is probably just an ordinary decent '84.

Default So if it's just a clean UrQ what's it worth??

Hi - I live about an hour away from this guy and I might give it a look.

Thanks a lot.

I looks in great shape and has low miles, plus its an 84, the rarest...I would say 8-10k isn't unreasonable, if everything on it works.
