Default Coil wire positions for WX to MC conversion???

Hi All,

I am trying to change my Urq over to MC management. I have replaced the ECU harness, and everything attached to it, but I am at a complete loss with how to wire up the coil. I have four wires. One Black and one Red/Black from the Urq (WX, 1983) and then one Blue/Red and one Green from the MC-1 harness. Does anyone know which terminals (and how to tell which terminal is which) on the coil pack these wires should be connected to? I am concerned that I might cause damage if I guess incorrectly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Default Some Info..

I don't have my MC'd urq or manuals at work, but here's what I can tell you right now:

-You don't need any of the WX harness to run the MC coil

-You WILL need the tach wire from the WX, to go to the new MC coil. (Probably one of the wires on the old coil)

-On the MC coil is a black plastic rectangle, with 4 terminls. There *are* numbers on that black plastic, if you can clean it well enough and see them. Only 2 differerent terminal assignemnts, with two terminals of each assignment.

-On terminal gets the +12 from the harness (Check the bently for confirmation, but I think it's the Red/blue to terminal 15 (Switched ignition Power)

-The other terminal (1?) gets the 'old' tach lead, and I think the other wire from the new harness.

From the link below:

"25. 26. 27. Coil power and grounds.
Green plug(s) to terminal 1 (left side) and black plug to terminal 15 (right).
Attach the stock 4kq tachometer wire to terminal 1 as well. This wire also drives the oil pressure warning relay. On '86+ 4kq cars it's red/black/yellow. 1984 & 1985 4kq cars are different but I forgot the color."

Do some on line searching for 4000 turbo conversions, because most of them end up using a MC motor and harness too. They are basically getting to the same place that you want to be, so same information is useful.

Web Archive..

Default I was looking for Derek Leep's 4ktq site

But it doesnt appear to be up any longer. Im trying to remember off the top of my head, but I thought the front 2 most terminals on the coil were used, and the left side was green, the other side the other plug. Id have to dig through some photos to see if I can tell in them.

Default Derek's site seems to be offline. But there is the 'wayback' machine..

So..

You plug the url of Dereks old site:
4ktq.digitalnoise.org/

Into the 'wayback' machine at..

http://www.archive.org/index.php</a

Default hey Katman...

do you know if I can apply that illustration to my plug deleting on my KX carb swap? I want to be sure of what stays and what goes, I know its a turbo harness in the illustration, was just wondering if it was like mine with a few other plugs. TIA

Default "Hey Joey!"

No, each harness is different, and I'm not familiar with the KX at all.

But in general, if you are going to run a carb, you should be able to delete anyhting that has to do with fueling, but will need to keep anything that has to do with ignition.

Even the different years of MC motor harnesses are slightly different, so Kx harness will be 'way' different.

Have fun though,if the KX ecu has anything to do with both fuel AND spark..

It'll pay off to get *very* familiar with the bently wiring diagrams of the harness that you have.. :-)

Default More info..

I've just gone outside and looked at my MC'd urq.

Red/Blue wire of the MC harness goes to term 15 on the coil, and green wire and (existing) tach feed go to terminal 1.
