Default I'd rather have him reply, but Ben's wheels aren't Speedlines.

They are 17" Boyds custom billet wheels powder coated white. They do look Speedlines though. I will bet that they are the only set in existence, originally made for the Marketing Director of BFG's ur q.

(Correct me if I'm wrong on this Ben)

Default REally, I'll have to go take a closer look. I saw the pictures of it at the CO UPG meet.

My mistake.

Default About the turbo on EBay.

James,

The thread has disappreared so I wanted to make sure you saw my follow-up on your appology about that turbo on EBay. I was only slightly interested and was mostly bustin your chops because you've got so much cool stuff. No hard feelings I hope.

Cheers,
Rich

Default Yeah Rich, I saw that. No problem.

I seriously don't want to ever bid against someone on Ebay who is a lister. :-)
It defeats the premise of working together on our cars for the better.

On an aside, I didn't "win" that turbo anyways. Shame because I've just finished my calcs compared to the T04E compressor maps and that turbo is indeed perfect for a 2.1 or 2.2 liter engine running a PR in the low to mid 2s.

I am considering ordering a K26 #8 hotside with a T04E/50 Coldside with the ceramic ball bearing center section. If anyone has some recommendations on this setup, please relay.

Default One thing on the ball-bearing turbos.

Be really careful about limiting the oil pressure on that ball-bearing center section. Those hybrid turbos have had a lot of failures and it's likely due to the very high oil pressures in the Audis. A turbo kit maker who shall remain nameless found that a restrictor in the oil supply line would reduce flow and pressure and make the ball-bearings last.

Best of luck,
Rich

P.S. I lived in Austin for 10 years and my folks are still there. When I'm back next I'd love to come check out your stable, particularly that rally car.

Default Re: I'd rather have him reply, but Ben's wheels aren't Speedlines.

Tis' true...I have been found out!!!! :-) They are in fact 17x8 2-piece Boyds billet wheels that I had coated white (origianlly they were polished). They were on Thompson Smith's 84' UrQ that originally belonged to the VP of BFG. They were custom one off's for him because his car was supposed to be on one of the infamous BFG posters and Boyd wanted his wheels in the poster too. The poster never happened, but the wheels just went with the car as it passed down through the owners. Once Thompson got the car, he really wanted the car to be factory looking so he put a set of 8's on and I bought the wheels from him. They aren't the Speedlines, but at 17.2lbs each, they are a nice copy.

FWIW, the orignal rally spec Speedlines are magnesium (sp?), 16x9.75 and are rare even in S1 terms. According to the people I have talked to about them they were not used very often because they were so wide. Usually used on Tarmac stages or Pikes Peak. The set that was on the PP car at MH99' had an Audi part number on them, but when checked, the part number was NLA...Big suprise, I know! Even going directly to Audi Sport, the number was NLA.
