Default Here's from Lewandowski Book - Audis Official USA Numbers on SQ

Officially - 10 were known production units sold and shipped to USA.

6 Red = Chassis nos. 033,035,037,039,057 and 058

2 White = Chassis nos. 190 and 208

2 Green = Chassis nos. 194 and 198

214 were produced (the 14 were built from spare parts in later production) and Chassis 006-024 were not listed as Country of Title as of the 1989 print date of the book.

Back in the 90's at Brainerd, I saw 6 of them at one event, of which 2 were Beddors' own personal cars (White and Red). Steve Beddor drove the White one at Brainerd in 2003 at the Frank Beddor Nationals.

Chassis 141 was originally sold in Oman, is now in the USA as well, sold by an Audifans guy in '02. IIRC that's the one Treadway now owns.

Somewhere in my files I have a update of the others that found their way here as well. I'd say a max of 15 or so stateside would be pretty accurate. I also know they were officially sold here, as my old prorally navigator and I visited a dealership in PA that had one on the showroom floor.

Default Info here:

Quoted from thread:
"These cars were delivered to USA as brand new:

(ch.nr, color, production date mm/dd/yr)

033, red, 3/12/85
035, red, 3/15/85
037, red, 3/12/85
039, red, 12/13/84
057, red, 4/2/85
058, red, 6/19/85
190, white, 12/20/84
194, green, 12/17/84
198, green, 2/19/85
208, white, 3/7/85

Rumours has it that Frank Beddor, Jr, the founder of Audi Club North America, owned 5 of these. One of the Sqs originally sold in USA now resides here in my hometown, imported by a local who has brought it over from Florida, where he has lived for the last few years. I believe it is one of the red cars, I have not yet seen it."

I have seen pictures of the "us spec" cars, they have front amber side markers from the VW Rabbit, the taillights are standard red US-spec. Coupe GT/UrQ parts (with sidemarkers), but the center piece is still smoked.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2472653</a

Default I was at that Event... And Beddor had 2 SQ's already he bought new!

USA production units shipped to the USA, what happened to them after that is anybody's guess.

WRT to Beddor 'pounding' of the Audi reps (I thought that was at Mid OH?) he was speaking in context to the newer S lines that were not being imported to the USA. Beddor's white car is a full race Lehmann engined (450HP) unit. The Red one he owned is all original, and sits right next to a matching red 85 urq with low miles.

Default Get the right book?

For anyone into the SQ, the Lewandowski book is the Bible. The Pollard book has quattro stuff in it, but it's the least desirable library reference IMHO.

Default History doesn't change, how is reported does.

Don't believe everything you read in those books, ESPECIALLY the Pollard book. Would you believe a book, or someone who actually bought a new Sport in the US?

I find it interesting how much misinformation has spread around (sometimes in books) and assumed to be the truth.

Default Didn't you meet the owner of a green SQ at Carlisle?

He was camping with James. His name is Colin.
Beautiful car. I've seen it a few times.

Default OK, BS flag picked up 8^) I know you were at that event Scott. I'd never met you or Igor or anyone

else for that matter before then. And since I've never been to MidOH, I'd say the only way I'd recall that 'fist pounding' was for it to have been at MH99.

Either way, great info. Maybe I need to add the Lewandowski book to the library. I know GP has one for sale in NH. How could one miss it? 8-)

I had a chance to see them two years ago...
