Default The journey begins...

Yesterday was the day i got my first UrQ.

My first audi was an 87.5 CGT i bought back in Feb of this year. It caused me to fall in love with audi's, with their handling and their looks unmatched. But the CGT began falling apart after only a few months (it had 240k miles on it, so i wasnt suprised) so i began looking for a replacement.

Into my life comes the Ur. I saw it on the Audifans marketplace, talked with the guy, and he agreed to accept payments (i couldnt get a loan or anything, i just turned 18 in July). So i began making payments in May. I've yet to find a car that will make you work for it as much as i have the Ur. But man is the payoff sweet. The final payment was yesterday, so i drove with a friend to hand deliver the check, and pick up my baby.

Its a Canadian Spec. #32 of 61 for the year 1983. Perfect (i mean perfect) condition, drives like its brand new. Gobi Beige with brown zebra cloth interior. Chipped, new springs, some other little things he made a list of that i can't find right now...

Came with 3 sets of rims/tires, boxes of spare parts, and 50lbs of quattro documentation.

Pics from the previous owner. I have yet to take any.

It drives just like it looks

I very much look forward to meeting you guys at future audi events and such. Please send me any info if there are any in the area (im in KY). If i have any tech questions (im sure there will be oodles) i'll be sure to ask you guys.

I'm very proud to be apart of the UrQ group.

Default Wow. Freaking nice car!

Don't know about Kentucky, but there's a few urQ owners in the midwest forum. Have you contacted Bill Bremer with the urq registry?

Seems like the previous owner did that given all the mods to the car. How's the electricals on the car? Windows, wipers, things like that?

Yep, talked with bill a month or so ago. Gotta tell him the deal is final now so he can update his registry. He informed me of 3? in KY, one is in my city (louisville). Its a Gobi too

As for the electrical... it all works. Except for this shiatty rigged mph gauge that only goes up to 80mph. The original kph is going back on once i get it registered.

He moved the turbo gauge over left of the wheel. Its still the stock black one, nothing big or ricy. He filled in the hole where it was with a dud gauge. I'll post interior pics soon enough.

I think the only thing that doesnt work is the cruise, im going to have that looked at.

Default good deal.

Electrical is 95% of the battle on 83s.

Don't feel bad on the cruise. Its shot on my car as well. I also have a rear wiper that works after fiddling with the stalk for ages. The main wipers are slow as anything. Dash lights?? What are those?

Default Nice hood vents!

I think i asked you once before about those.

Where did you get those? I'm going on a long roadtrip soon and i'm told getting those would be a very good idea.

And what does it take to get them installed?

Default I test drove that one when shopping for my UrQ

The previous owner had the 80 mph gauge in there when I drove it too, freaked me out when I drove up 71 and had the gauge so far past vertical at 75 mph. From what I remember, the suspension was VERY stiff, know what the setup is? Did he get the exhaust leak at the manifold fixed?

Nice car, I definitely considered that one heavily before buying mine.

Welcome!

Default Congrats, Jason. I'm in Nashville.

Don't have my UrQ yet, but I am a confirmed Audi nut. If you're in Louisville or somewhere in the southern portion(or even not), it'll be easy for you to come down for the Rally's and group drives this Fall with the SE ACNA chapter and the TN VW H20 chapter(with which a few of us Audi freaks tag slong). Email me for specifics.
Car is nice. Have fun, as it sounds like you deserve it. Did you you buy it in the Tri-Cities area? I think I've seen that car before.

Peace,
Fru-T

Default Re: Nice hood vents!

I ordered mine from a company in England. Big difference in cooling. I installed them my self. It took alot of nerve to do the first cut, but it was easy. They are supposed to take over 300 degrees, but the one over the turbo is slightly warped (only noticable from the underside.) Check out this webpage, they have them in aluminum.<ul><li><a href="http://www.rapidogroup.com/newprod.htm">http://www.rapidogroup.com/newprod.htm</a</li></ul>
