Default Rocker Panel Pictures?

Now that I've worked on my front inner fender repairs, I'm thinking of working on the rocker panels/floor seam.

BUt all the different pieces that come together at the bottom of the rocker panel scares me.

Does anyone have an 'exploded view' of how all the separate body pieces go together, or pictures of a repair job with some of the parts remove?

I find it hard to vizualize how it all goes together..

Thanks,

Default Yes, but..

The pictures of the rocker panel / floor area are kind of small and 'far away', and not too detailed..

Default I was told there is a seam sealer used between the rocker and front fender

Of course you can see the seam - and actually I wouldn't buy a urq without seeing those 2 seams (one also are rear door edge) as many guys fill it in with body putty. No seams is a clue to me that things are not original. What is that seam sealer called - brand name - model number? I'll need to pick it up someday. Now that Frank is fixing his rust - well it's called keeping up with the Fedats

Default Seam Sealer 'closeup'

Yes, there would be a slightly obvious 'join' between frnder and rocker panel. I think that there should also be another visible 'seam' on the rocker panel , just below the rear of the doors.

This pic is of the front of the rocker panel on the right side of the car:

In the 'ideal' world, the front end of the rocker panel would not be rotted out, but completely sealed. The rear of the fender bolts onto the front of the rocker panel using the visible bolt, so there should be a slight seam visible.

I'd imagine on original install they used some sort of mastic compund, similar to what would be used between the top of the fender and the inner fender mounting area. It's sort of a tar/glue kind of material, and I think 3M makes strips of it for body work use. Someone more familiar with the autobody trade may know exactly what it's called..

Default Leak here means rust in the rockers?

I think any leak of water into this FRONT Fender sealer area and the rockers fill up with water and the car is on an accelerated decline.
I don't think there are any drains for water that gets into the rockers. On my car any water that entered must have come out of this rust hole (this is the rear wheel area, sorry rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise) . On the passenger side there is a rubber plug instead of a rust hole.
I don't think the CGT has this same issue, the fenders don't offer the same water pathway into the rockers.
Of course I could be wrong.

Default Water inside, at least..

You'd have had some water inside, at least. I'd think if you repaired (or at least sealed) and filled rocker with some oil, you'd slow any further damage. (If you had Any Damage, it would be the bottom rocker/floor seam letting go, I'd think)

Default OH yea - I have that Mid Rocker rust going on

Fortunately only L side and again maybe just because the front seam to the fender wasn't done right after PO fender removal. Now that I have rust here - where will good metal be found? I guess when I finally take it for repairs the guy will have to determine if he goes back 12 inches either way there is good metal. They'll always be a little cancer left behind - probably be best to just replace the whole rocker. If the rockers are NLA or $600 - it seems like these relatively flat pieces could be recreated by a sheet metal fellow.
Actually - I'm just fishing for a few tips.

Default Re: Rocker Panel Pictures?

Newbie post from long-time lurker...

No new updates on the link below but there are some pictures of the rocker panels before and after the repair.

Lots of other photos of restoration @ 4-star.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
