Default Suggestions

My friend Otmar returned from Germany with this in his Suitcase. He doesn't know how it got there, but I took it off his hands for a few bucks.

I like it alot, but someone polished the darn thing... Anyone know a good way to restore the original cast finish? Or do you guys think its pimping and I should use it as is?

Default Re: Suggestions

You can probably have it sandblasted. I've been doing that to my aluminum parts as I go. Just make sure its very clean b4 it gets installed!

Default Send it to Jet-Hot, and get it refinished in it's original color. The ceramic coating will help...

resist dirt, and it would be in keeping with the high-tech nature of the engine.

Default What was the original color? I'm guessing it was like the SQ intake manifold

I have which is just a blasted aluminum finish. Perhaps some red paint on parts of the raised lettering.. Anyone have some pictures?

Default Bead blast it and leave it uncoated. It will take off the shine, yet not be too abrasive.

Looks like someone started polishing and gave up.

These were not painted or coated from the factory. If you do have it powder coated, etc., you will have a PITA of a time getting the stuff off again if you ever want it to look "ex works".

Default Yeah. I think your right.

I'll vinyl tape all the smooth surfaces and then take it somewhere to have the topside bead blasted to match the original finish which can still be seen towards the front.

Its a Street Sport Quattro part, but it matches my Intake manifold more than the 200 part on the car now. I'd much prefer the original finish than polished. I do think the wording may have been painted red on originals. I;ve looked in my picture collection and haven't seen that, but if someone has a pic. Please post or email to me.

Thanks.

Default Glass beads

for anything not steel, grit is way too abrasive otherwise.

Duct tape works fine for masking.
