Default Yes. My sis has one. She just went through a cheap gas=crappy run phase.
After two tanks of premium with a can of BG44K in each she ran smooth again.

Our GTI VR6 seems to run worse on premium than on 87.

Default My wife drives one, 2003 GLI VR6, and yes it needs the 91 minimum,
I tried the 89 a couple of times, and it kept throwing codes.
