Was everyone else aware this beast existed?
I had never seen one before but it does exist.
A B5.5 Passat Wagon 1.8T Quattro with 5 speed manual.
We specifically purchased our Avant for the wagon body style, quattro, manual trans, and
the fuel economy and power upgrades the 1.8T afforded. The one drawback to the car was the
weak (at best) rear seat legroom. This Passat would be a sweet car. I guess it lacks some of
the Audi style, etc. but when our A4 gets tired around 300K in a few years, we will definitely take a look at these cars.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=217633533&dealer_id=56624433&am p;car_year=2005&search_type=both&num_recor ds=25&keywordsfyc=&make=VOLKS&transmis sion=Manual&model=PASS&distance=0&make 2=&

Re: Was everyone else aware this beast existed?
It was a long sought after combo. It wasn't until the end of the line practically that they produced the 1.8T 4Motion combo. Now with the new design we are back to square one. The 4Motion is only available on the 3.6 VR6 model. Who knows when it will be available on the 2.0T.
It was a shame VW didn't offer it sooner. Not to mention it took forever to get the B5.5 in a TDI then sales were lackluster until the new model came out and there were no TDIs as an option. Hopefully next year.
Rear legroom isn't that bad, I believe it is actually better than the A4. I know in my old B5 Passat the legroom seemed better than the B5 A4. The B5.5 should be no different. Now a B6+ A4 is a different story.
Thought he new Passats have more interior room especially in the rear seating area with more Audi-esque touches.
I do have a 2006 2.0T sitting in my garage if you ever fancy checking a newer one out. It is however just a Tip, but the 2.0T FSI is a great engine.

Yes, my friend has a tip, 1.8t 4motion Passat, also.
He was not successful in locating a standard trans. unfortunately. He pushed for an Allroad, but his wife thought "Audis are just a name." Whatever! It's nice, but my preference would have been for an A4 avant or an Allroad anyday.

thanks for the offer...
Are you referring to a passat 2.0T or B7 A4 2.0T?
I test drove the B6 Passat 2.0T wagon tiptronic and was blown away by the torque and power of this direct injection beast! And NVH levels are quite acceptable. Rear seat legroom is awesome, just like the B5 Passat. Great car IMO.
However, I do prefer the longitudinal layout and torsen center diff of the Audi platforms that was shared by the B5 passat's over the transverse layout in the new B6 Passat. But I agree, price independent, I would probably choose the B6 Passat with the 2.0T, 6 speed manual, and 4motion (even though it is the Haldex unit). I really do love that 2.0T engine.

Re: thanks for the offer...
Yes, I have a Passat 2.0T. It's pretty amazing what little lag there is out of the box on that engine.
We want to get rid of the Passat, but if VW were to offer the 2.0T with 4Mo as a wagon we may consider sticking with the model. Otherwise I see a Mercedes or BMW wagon in our future. The future wife isn't a fan of the Audi wagons, but I think I need her to get out and drive some more.
