Default VASCAR is basically timing you between two points via some method

such as a stopwatch, airplane, or most accurately two sensors in the road.

Default Plea bargin- Plea Bargin -Plea Bargin

Talk to the DA, tell them your really sorry and stupid, and see what they will do. I have had 2 6 point offenses in Denver reduced to 2 non-moving violations(Defective Taillight on both)

Good Luck

Default How did you already reject a plea bargin if you haven't met with the prosecutor yet?

DON'T REJECT THE PLEA!!!! In your record it will just show up as the offense that you end up copping to (ex. tail light out... no insurance increase) versus arguing the ticket itself and probably losing unless you hire a lawyer. Either way you are talking lawyer expense or a hike in insurance.

Default Well, the problem was I didn't know that at the time...

and the people at the counter didn't know the answer, so I decided to take a chance. They also told me (which could be completely wrong) that I will be required to talk to the officer before we appear before the judge, and at that point I can tell him why I rejected the plea bargain, and possibly we can "work something out".

Of course there are two schools of thought on this as well...one says "always fight," and clearly another says "take the plea bargain!"

Default Negotiated with ***'t DA today and got

my 6-point 41 in a 20 school zone ticket down to a 1 point defective headlight under 54-70(b) of the Denver Municipal Code. I'm assuming the insurance co will see through that for rate purposes, but you can never have too many points in your "points bank". I believe the one-pointer goes off my record after 2 years. Happy to see that Denver is still revenue-greedy though; DA wouldn't reduce fine amount so still had to pay $125 fine plus court costs etc etc. I'll be screaming blood hell if insurance co tries to raise rates, since everyone speeds most of the time and a speeding tickets means nothing more than that you're number was up that day, and since my driving record was otherwise spotless.

Default "deferred judgement" has worked for me....

I got caught for speeding through Craig, on my way home from camping a while ago. At court (6 months later) the cop said that since I had a clean record, she would be willing to do a deferred judgement. Basically, they keep the ticket on file and check my record in 6 months. If I am still clean, then they get rid of this ticket too. If I've been caught somewhere else, then they enter this ticket into my file. Anyway, I was clean (this was years ago) and it never showed up on my record as far as I know. However, I still had to pay court fees and stuff like that. But at least that's better than higher insurance rates.

Default Fair question. No excuses, there never is for speeding in a school zone. But

didn't know it was a school zone; no kids present; street not clearly marked (no flashing lights or marks on road; just streetside signs partially obscured by tree branches; three lanes oneway, I was in far left lane paying attention to cars pulling out from side streets and not to hard to see signs; school on right side; was traveling with traffic flow, last in group and got caught; low hanging fruit theory, I guess; speed limit normally 40. I have kids myself and, unlike on highways where speed limits are set to accommodate the lowest common-intelligence/driving ability denominator and where I do drive at a "comfortable pace", I wouldn't knowingly speed through a school zone during school hours. If the s.o.b. cops really cared about kids' safety, they'd post a cop in a highly visible spot before the school zone to get everyone to slow done; but here, the a**hole had a speed trap set up after the school zone. As always, revenue over safety.

Default Revenue over safety, It seems that way doesn't it (more)

I agree with your point. IMO, if the cops cared about safety they would do a "show of force" and make it clear that they are watching you and you will get a ticket if you speed/etc.

Now I have to rant!

<rant>
We have those fancy digital signs on I-25 in the Springs. They could put a marqee up that says we're watching you SLOW DOWN if they wanted to slow folks down. The "we might be hiding behind the bushes" technique doesn't prevent speeding or running redlights. IMO, the sneaky hiding tricks are only designed to give as many tickets as possible thereby collecting as much incremental revenue as possible. I pay my damn taxes and shouldn't have to worry about the increased risk of speeding tickets during poor economic times.
</rant>

Sorry about the rant. I feel much better now. Good luck and watch behind those bushes!
