New M5 is neither fish nor foul. I'll pass.
New RS6 due out in mid 2006 for 2007 will be better (at least to me) than the new M5. I will definitely buy the next RS6 over the new M5 in a heartbeat if I can afford the new RS6. IMO, the previous M5 is so much nicer looking than the new M5.

BMW Track Record
I have to say, dispite the fact that I love my RS 6, the M3 I drove for 5 years was excellent.
I have been on the BMW boards (m5.com) and others and they don't have 1/100 the number of posts on PROBLEMS with their cars. My Dad is now in his 3rd M5, and has had few problems. One needed a new clutch after 60 thousand miles, otherwise no problems. My M3 I drove very hard, needed to replace the rear shock mounts (did it myself for $60.00 in parts and 2 hours)..
I get very concerned over the many posts I have seen on this site with regard to brakes, etc. I am very thankful that the warrantee is longer than my lease period.
I have to admit the BMWs do seem to be more refined. I like the fact that the M cars are performers without superchargers or turbos. In fact if I was not living this far north with all the snow I would be driving an M5.
Also, maintenance in a BMW is easier for us do-it-your-self'ers.
If BMW puts all-wheel drive in the 5 series cars, that would really hurt Audi.

Dr. Aronis has most likely never been to BMW Roadfly
On BMW Roadfly, there are easily just as many BMW owners who report problems on their cars as their are Audi owners here on AudiWorld who report problems on their cars. In fact, if it weren't for the exceptional popularity of the previous 5 Series/M5 (excellent reliability was one of many reasons for the exceptional popularity of the previous 5 Series/M5), then BMW would have scored just as low as or lower with JD Power and Associates and Consumer Reports than Audi. This is truth and food for thought.

2tonic Tim,
Thanks for the link.
I was unaware.
Believe me I DID search high and low for simliar complaints to simply put my mind a ease over the Audi posts of problems.
I am actually GLAD to hear that they also have problems!
