is it just my impression, or is the RS6 starting to get more recognition now?

Default Yeah, someone said Colorado was the first market to sell out of RS6s when new

Makes sense, considering the value of AWD in snow and turbos at higher elevations.

Default Hard to figure

I had some selected attention when my car was new in Aug 03. On a trip west from Micigan, one guy followed me out of the Motor City and another flagged me down in Wyoming, with many other thumbs up & the like -- especially from drivers of Audis and VWs. Still, for most it was somewhat stealthy.

That hasn't changed much, at least for me. And that in itself is impressive considering the car is almost three years old, i.e. neither new nor a classic. Some now simply say "nice car" or "beautiful car," but others almost go nuts. After all the RS6 still is the only mid-size sedan that combines AWD with over 400 hp -- right?

Yet the majority still have no clue.

Hard to figure if reactions are changing much, at least for me. But you're right -- it's kinda fun!
