n00b question on engine oil...
The RS6 tech at the dealer checked the trunk for a spare quart of the "mystery RS6 oil." None there, so he suggested I buy a quart in the parts department. Castrol "VW Standard 505 01"...$6.50/quart.
Question: What other oils (more generally available, not necessarily less expensive) meet this standard?

In your owners manual there should be an insert telling you that the VW 505.01 is the ONLY oil ...
you may use. The Audi RS6 policy is that if you use any other oil and there is a motor problem, the first thing they will do is test a sample from your sump and if thery find anything they dont like your engine warranty is toast.
At least its not $16 a quart anymore!
BTW.. Make sure they only put 7.5 quarts in during oil changes. Many of us had theirs overfilled due to a misprint saying they needed 9 quarts..
What is your build date? Is your VIN 904xxx or 905xxx?

had a scanned list of the different brands available a year or so ago.
I would check websites of brands that you like to see if they have an oil that meets the spec.
If you research other brands please let us know your results so we can say what a swell guy you are for doing our homework.
