2004 911TT vs RS4
Was offered a 2004 911TT (12000 miles mint)- Totally different car, but in terms of fun factor- from those of you who have been fortunate to drive both. Waddaya think?

Well I haven't driven the RS4 yet...
But the 996TT is just about perfect. It is a truly amazing machine... If you don't care about 4 seats/doors and are happy driving a pure sports car (versus a sports sedan), I think the 911 Turbo is the way to go. Once I get some miles on the RS4, I will be able to compare it better. I know that the 911 trumps my S4 in terms of handling ability and driving feel. I'm sure the gap will be narrower with the RS4.

totally different cars, but the 996TT is a surprisingly good daily driver...
...as well as being a rocket. i'll be "borrowing" a 996TTS cab this summer for quite awhile. be able to side-by-side as soon as the RS4 gets here. prob too late for your decision tho :-(
you can't go wrong with that car. only thing that should tip you to the RS4 is if you want something newer and more exclusive/rare. or if you really need the 4 doors and backseat.

Didn't push it too hard, but here's my 2-cents
I drove buddy's 996 Turbo S. Frankly I really didn't drive it to hard b/c I didn't want to drive a $150K car into the ditch.
As a daily driver, the RS4 is more comfortable. The clutch is really heavy. Also I thought the RS4 stick is better too. It's also kind of loud too. Which is a good thing a lot of times, but not all the time. Also the RS4 definitely sounds better [IMHO].
In regards to what's faster, the 911 hands down. After the turbo's spool, it's gone.
So I guess it depends what you're looking for. I think the RS4 is a daily driver. But if you already have a daily driver, maybe the 996 Turbo makes more sense.

The 911 is a capable daily driver...
But the RS4 definitely suits that role better. It has more creature comforts and viable storage areas
Admittedly a stock 911 Turbo's exhaust is too quiet. Throw on something like a Europipe, and it's an amazing sound. The sound of the RS4 is great too (can't wait to hear what an aftermarket exhaust does to it).
Bottom line, the RS4 is more practical, comfortable, and possibly cheaper to maintain. But no matter how good a sports sedan it may be, it is still just that... the 911 is one of the top sports cars in production and there's something to be said for that

Side-by-side won't last long :)
The 996 Turbo X50/Turbo S (same turbo kit) are extremely strong. With just an exhaust and no software, my X50 dyno'd 433 WHP and 455 TQ. Not to mention the weight disadvantage of the RS4. It's going to be a pretty ugly race if you do some side by side pulls

Re: 2004 911TT vs RS4
I would say that I'd have much better chances of long term survival without a 996 T in my garage. Porsche has done a lot to tame the rear engine design but it's still not for a rookie. I feel much more comfortable driving a car that has more predictable handling really hard. 911's of all types and ages can be squirrely. Porsche will be ditching the rear engine design soon - the Boxter and the Cayman are evidence of this shift. The power of the flat six is becomming harder and harder to squeeze out while maintaining reliability. I think Porsches of the future will have high-revving V8's placed mid-ship like Ferrari and just about every other "classic" sports car. Porsche has made it's mark as one of the finest engine makers with units like the V10 in the Carrera GT - that thing sounds like a friggin sport bike - so they can certainly make a twitchy V8 for the 911's successor.

def. won't be comparing from that standpoint. the TTS will destroy it in all...
...aspects of performance. that's a given. was thinking more in terms of daily drivability. again, i already feel the TTS is a competent daily driver, if you don't need 4 doors.
maybe the comparison should just be:
used 996TTS = $100K+
new RS4 = $75K
RS4 wins!
