2007 vs 2008
What are the major differences between the 2007 and 2008?
Mainly:
Mechanical
Interior
Controls
Radio/Nav
Defects
Put another way, what do I gain/lose by getting a 2007 or 2008?
Thanks!

Besides the 2008 being a year newer, there is no real differences. There were special feature that could have been order on very late 07s or 08 models but the cars are pretty much the same. DRC updates might be the only difference but the Recall is taking care of that issue.

I had a 2007, now a 2008. Other than color options (Ti package) there are no real differences. There is no difference in the MMI and Nav. There is no difference in the DRC, they all are subject to the recall (I had both of mine done). There may have been some package differences at ordering, but virtually all of them have full options (premium package with all the goodies, plus the sunroof).
There is no mechanical difference.

Mid-2007 production changes included adding a small horizontal chrome strip to the dash buttons above the radio, and the roof antenna for the Nav was made smaller. Early 2006-2007 cars had the large B6-style sharkfin.
The updated car are sometimes referred to as "2007b" production, while the early ones are "2007a".

I've been meaning to put a post up about the nav. It totally blows. I'm not just talking about the complicated interface. I'm referring to the very odd routes it tries to take me on. Many times, I pretty much know the way I'm going, but I'll plug something in the nav, just to help me with the last couple turns. But along the way, it keeps telling me to turn on odd roads - like it's intentionally trying to take me the wrong way! I just ignore it and keep on going, until it eventually agrees with me and re-routes me. Often when it does finally re-route me, the arrival time drops by 10 minutes. Well, duh! That's because the previous arrival time was based on the WRONG way!! I've resorted to using Google Maps or bringing along my Garmin.

I have a Garmin (Zumo 550) on my bike that I keep updated regularly and it's sent me on plenty wild goose chases too. There's one particular destination that we joke about, "you can't get there from here".
The Audi system has its good days and its bad days, but they all do. If you live by the Nav, you die by the Nav. If time is of the essence, a second tool is recommended!
