Default 335i faster around VIR than the RS4!!! wow! what do you

think? 335i ran a 3.10.5 and the RS4 ran a 3.11.2. for comparison the R8 ran a 3.04.6. R8 beat the 911 Turbo.

Default Go drive a 335i ...

Go drive a 335i, and then any worries you have will be gone. Next to the RS4, the car is a total bore to drive. I remember the look on my BMW salesman's face (from whom I've purchased many, many BMWs) when I told him the car felt like a Camry.

Frankly, I'm not all that surprised the car is quicker around the track. It's lighter, better balanced, and w/ 2wd vs. awd, the power put down to the wheels isn't as big of a gap as the engine rated numbers.

Obviously, the RS4 will eat the car up for lunch in the rain. I don't mean to belabor the rain thing (it seems like I'm always bringing it up), but that is why I purchased the RS4 versus a rwd sports sedan or sports car. One thing's for sure, the 335i with it's open diff will make for lots of excitement in the rain, but it won't be fast. Also, those turbos will start to heat-up after prolonged track use so too bad they didn't do a 30 minute sprint race instead of a one lap flyer (from what I've read, the 335i has heat problems). On a different track with longer or more straights, the outcome would have been different. The 335i is a more tossable car. The RS4 is a better road car.

Exclusivity-wise, how many RS4s did you see today? Or even in the past month? I really like BMWs but just about everybody and their brother (including mine) has one. Not for me.

I believe they've solved the early oil temperature problems with another oil cooler.

i find the Camry comment a bit of a stretch. 335i is a high performance coupe...the Camry is, well...

too many times Audi drivers fall back on the 'AWD in the rain' crutch, IMO. there's really no need to qualify it like that. The RS4 is a superior machine to the 335i. its weight is a liability, but what can you do?

i'm also a bit troubled by this constant mention of 335i turbos overheating. the early automatics supposedly had this problem, with the one oil cooler, but not the MT's. and, IIRC, the autos will be getting addtl oil cooler(s).

RS4 a better 'road car', true. i think that's the case with the A4 series vs the 3 series, but that's where it ends. anybody who thinks the 5 series and 7 series aren't good road cars needs to think again.

exclusiveness of RS4 is very valid, you are dead on.

in general i agree with your comments, except the Camry thing, and my comments aren't meant to criticize.

Regarding the Camry comment, I just want to be clear than this statement was made in the context of "Compared to an RS4". In other words, compared to the RS4 the 335i feels like a Camry. In the absolute, the 335i is a great car, no doubt. The RS4 is just much, much better IMO. Bimmer folks out there may very well disagree, but I'm a long time Bimmer fan and owner of many (incl. M3, M3LTW, M5, etc.), so the fact that I purchased an RS4 instead of a 335i or waiting for the new M3 certainly says something.
