Default 850 miles - already cracked the windshield - damn...

I was driving over the weekend going no more than 75 mph. A stone hit my windshield. It didn't even sound very loud, but pow - bullet type of hole right in my line of sight. I mean it is smack dab in the middle of my point of view from the driver's seat. Son of a "B".

I then did a search on here and am amazed by the number of cracked windshields. Seems like this is a pretty common problem with these cars. Other than this, I love getting in the car every day and can't wait to finish breaking her in.

Question: I am in the Los Angeles area and plan on going to a dealer for replacement. Has anyone else in the area had this done at one of the dealers near LA, and if so, can you please share what you paid?

Thanks, and happy motoring.

Sean

If like my dealer, yours will just send it out to a glass shop to get the work done. You are likely better off finding out who they use, and then going to them directly (specifying OEM glass, which they will get from your dealer). I think you are looking at $400 or so.

Default I got my S4 done by the dealer

I don't know, or care, if they did it themselves or outsourced it. I just wanted to be able to deal with Audi for any potential issues rather than a glass company.
I had not issues BTW.

Default Have glass coverage on insurance? Windshields are freak'n expensive now days.

The B7's are between $500-700

I have glass coverage so it just cost me $100 and an hour later had a new windshield installed by safelite. They did a great job.

Default This is covered under the "comprehensive" portion of your car insurance.

And the claim won't affect your premium. Will just cost you your deductible. Mine's $100 so it was pretty painless when it happened to me.

Default Even if you go to the dealer it's likely they'll contract out for the replacement.

I've had pretty good service from Santa Monica Audi, if you definitely want to take it to a dealer.

Ditto and it was under $400. Much cheaper than I thought it would be.

Default I had to go to the dealer as I couldn't get a private guy to touch it due to the moisture sensor.

But then again, I live in the sticks. Anyhow, Dealer (Niello) did a great job.
