Anyone else read the Sept C&D RS4 Road Test?
IMO, very poor review of the new beast. The first three paragraphs are unfavorable due to its 150 mph "rear-end boogie." They spend an inordinate amount of time on the 4k lb curb weight. With respect to the track, they indicated that the tires were poor as evidence of the left front tread showing steel cords after lap # 3.
It's ironic that they conclude with ". . . This new RS4 is an extraordinary sophisticated car, and we can't wait to see how BMW will rise to its challenge. Staye tuned." Hunhhhhh? WTF??

yeah, and just ordered one
How about the reference to the Evo????? i thought it was a horrible review. I have had my S4 up to 140, and have never noticed too much of a loose tail, though certainly some lift....

Maybe the chassis isn't stiff enough. :-P
Seriously though, I gotta agree somewhat. The curb weight is a major issue, especially since Audi lied about it for a long time.
It's pretty safe to say BMW will show up with something lighter and faster. Until then, the RS4 is the car to get.

interesting thing is that historically, i found CAR and Top Gear to be somewhat anti-Audi Sport...
...but both are very favorable toward the RS4. hard to say what drives the editorial slant these days. they must like to mix it up to keep people interested. but apparently C&D is hung up on bimmers still.

You read it wrong.. The only thing bad they said was the wiggle and they didnt even say that was bad
They specifically mentioned that the 150mph wiggle WASN'T enough to disrupt the dynamics or cause concern, they were simply CURIOUS where it was coming from.
And the paragraph about the tire stated that this showed how hard the TRACK was on the tires, combined with the WEIGHT of the car.
Really, it was a pretty positive review except for the weight, which is a valid concern at 4000lbs (considering it was supposed to be closer to 3700lbs)..
So their conclusion is inline with the article... great car elevating the standard of sports sedan.
