Anyone know a decent mechanic in Arlington, VA...need a brake job.

Buy pads and do it yourself. seriously.
If you see how easy it is to change pads on the front calipers and then pay someone else to do it, you will kick yourself.
You will need:
- Jack (factory is not my favorite, but it will work)
- Lug nut tool (also in the trunk)
- 16 penny nail or a punch
- hammer
- small screwdriver.
Loosen lug nuts. Jack car. Remove wheel. Use hammer and nail/punch to press out the pins on the pad retainer clips (4 pins, 2 per clip). With old pads in, use screwdriver to push the pistons back into the caliper (works great at the out edge). Remove old pads. Put in new pads. Reverse process. Step on brake pedal a few times before you drive.
Seriously, I think I can do it - both sides, in under 5 minutes.
The wear sensors will take a smidge longer (mine are gone) but still, unplug, replug.
Hopefully this helps.

Re: Buy pads and do it yourself. seriously.
I live on the west coast, am visiting for a few months therefore I do not have my tools and living in apt block, would rather just pay someone else to do the job.

where on the west coast? Find out how much the dealer charges, I will come do it for 90% of that!
Did I read somewhere here they said dealers were charging like $1000 to do this?

Try New German Performance in Lorton
Not too far from Arlington. The owner, John, is a good guy. Focus is on VW / Audis, fairly nice shop, reasonable rates.

http://www.ngpracing.com</a
