It is "transparent" to light. I've had this stuff on all my cars for past 9 years.

Default I use the lamin-x 20mil film.

Easy to install, any small air bubbles dissipate within a few days. While they look completely transparent, I did notice a very slight loss in light output from my xenons. IMO it is worth having the protection on there to prevent rockchips as well as hazing to the lenses.

Default covering lighting surfaces is not a good idea

it may be no big deal, but it's not going to prevent damage/cracks, and any small marks will show on the material just as it would on the headlight lens...which begs the question, what are you protecting? as for the effect of heat or reduced clarity(and lumination) over time, that remains to be seen, in each case.

confine it to painted surfaces.

Default At $40 for the pair, it's worth the cost to even replace the covers once a year if it needs it...

I'd rather do that then buy new housings.
