Default Audi Navigation

Does anybody who regularly uses the Navigation think that it's far inferior to the average aftermarket Navigation system on the market today? I can't stand that it is not touch screen and the routes that it comes up with are very indirect at times(I'm fairly sure I'm up to date on the nav with 026 update). Also there seems to be somewhat of a delay between where the car is located real time and what is ouputted to the screen. Not to mention how much of a pain it is to click in the address.

Has anybody retrofitted with a touch screen unit? If so what kind. Also any recommendations to improve the use of the stock navigation system? I'm a young guy and fairly tech savy but this system really bugs me.

I guess I'm a little opposite in that I love the fact it isn't touch screen and only really use it when I am going somewhere I've never been. Good also for letting you know when turns are coming when you're out on club drives etc.

If you set your road preferences up, it may give you better options. i.e. avoid ferry's, etc.

As far as I know I haven't really noticed any delays in position updates.

Eric.

Not really a touch screen fan. They get all greasy and gross. Keep in mind the RNS-E system has been around for quite some time. There's actually a new version going in the TT and R8 for MY10. Someone should look into the changes and retrofit there.

I couldn't agree more in terms of usability. I just bought a 2009 Ford Flex and the touchscreen, voice activated navigation/media/climate system "Sync" is far superior to what's in my RS4. Every time I start driving the RS4 I feel like I am in a previous decade and wish I was in the Flex...that is...until I step on the gas!

The RS4 Nav is pretty bad. The $230 Garmin Nuvi 265wt I bought for the 1-series does everything (and a lot more) better! Real time traffic free for life, faster calc times, bluetooth capable, touch screen, portable, expansion slots for Euro maps, etc. etc.

I am almost tempted to use it on the RS4 as well!

I don't use the NAV in either one of my cars because they are counter intuitive. Luckily, I don't really need them either.

Personally, I don't think a car like the RS4 should have Nav. Or sound deadening, or carpets, or a sunroof. It should have been stripped out like the Challenge Stradale or Superleggera. If Lambo can take 220 pounds out of a Gallardo, Audi should have been able to make the RS4 weigh 3600 pounds.

But of course, like 95+%, I have the premium package and sunroof also. As it turns out, my Nav disc is stuck in the head unit and the entire thing will need to be replaced. I bought the DVD update and thus far it cannot be loaded.

On the NAV, I guess I live a sheltered life. When comparing it to NAV's of other cars I have had (i.e. BMW's pre iDrive system, Bently, and Mercedes Command system) and with NAV's I am very familar with (Jaguar, Aston, and iDrive) I find it quite good. The GUI feature is the best of all of them (i.e. usability, features, maps etc) and the nav feature (accuracy, best route, positioning etc) is better than those except command, which never got me lost and always seemed to find the best route. So I really like it. The NAV on my wife's Q7 is a bit different and even better than that on the RS4 I think. Seems to have a few more features.

Eric. Is that a RaceDeck floor you got? How do you like it? I am debating getting that or an epoxy floor. Seem about the same price.
