Default don't think there is one, but it's pretty easy.

just remove the top half of the airbox, take out the filter, then remove the lower half of the airbox....make a note of all the attachments....use labels if you must. on the lower, forward-facing portion of the lower airbox, you'll see an airhorn with an actuator mechanism. the flap is attached to that actuator mechanism. remove the horn, disassemble, and remove the flap. you can then either replace the horn and reinstall the airbox, or just leave the horn off and reinstall the airbox (which is what I recommend). reinstallation is MUCH easier without the horn in place, and my MAF readings were actually a bit better without the horn as well.

removal of the lower airbox requires a bit of 'wrangling'...mechanix gloves highly recommended, unless you like having cuts and scratches all over your hands. also, removing a couple of the passenger-side headlight bolts and *gently* pulling the headlight housing out of the way greatly facilitates removal and reinstallation of the lower airbox.

good luck!

Default Why would you do this?

Sorry, trying to understand the advantages of de-flaping.

Thanks!

Default Have no idea (I might be a Lemming)

seriously - it has been shown to increase air flow as the flap on the lower part of the airbox only opens at higher RPM's or certain throttle openings...

Default the airbox intake flap has been known to stick, blocking airflow at higher rpms.

so some of us have opted to remove it altogether. I removed mine about 15k miles ago, and have had no adverse issues as a result.

Will the dealer servicing ever get near there and say the warranty is void?

Default during routine service, they probably wouldn't notice.

the horn and flap are buried behind a bunch of other crap. even if they did notice, and wanted to make a stink about it, they could only void the warranty if they were able to PROVE that removing the flap caused some other problem.
