Best tint percentages?
Hi guys - I picked up a new Avus Silver RS4 with Titanium package a couple weeks ago. First, thanks to all who contribute to this board - it was very helpful in getting information on the car and ultimately a good price. Second, my apologies for no pics thus far, but the car is stock, so most of you probably know what this package looks like.
Now to my issue / question: I want to get the windows tinted. I have tried the search function here, but I am seeing that people have a wide range of tint levels. Can you share some opinions on what combo back and front looks best while also avoiding getting pulled over by the police? I am in the Los Angeles area and law enforcement does pull people over for cars whose tint is too dark on the front.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I have 50 which is the lightest. Everyone is different, but my thought was
to give the cops the least possible reason to pull me over. I have had 2 RS4s done at # 50 and I have no regrets. I am sure there are others that think 50 is too light.
PA laws are kinda nebulous but the rule here is basically the police must be able to see you thru the tint. To me 50 is easily seeable, 35 is close and anything below that is asking for trouble.
You must check on your state's rules - every state is different. I think FLA is the most liberal if you will and you can go very dark

True about PA. While their is a set rule (see link below), EVERY state trooper I've spoken to has told me something different.
Two weeks ago I was stopped at a sobriety check (I passed...), the trooper told me tint on the driver and front passenger side windows was illegal. I said "I thought per the state that 70% was legal". He said as the windows come stock tinted, any additional tint made them illegal. Wasn't an argument I was going to win...

PA Tinting

Re: Well, it's pretty draconian in California
I wish I could say something exciting was going on in my car other than my having a stupid grin on my face while I try to contain my speed. I have owned a 911 Cabriolet, an S500, and a BMW 3 series, 5 series, and X5. So far, this is my favorite car (I miss the drive of the 911, but I have a usable amount of practicality now with the extra doors and back seats that can at least fit two of my kids).
As a 38 year old husband, and father of three young kids, I try to keep my nose clean nowadays, but I still like to avoid unnecesary conversations with the police while driving.
Thanks for sharing info thus far guys - does anyone have 50% on the front and 35% on the back? If I'm understanding the percentages properly, that would give the rest of the car a darker look and make the front appear a little lighter. I think I had this combo in the past on our 3 series (which was silver), and it looked good. Problem is that it was so long ago that I have no recollection of what the setup was.

I apologize, as I have only had time to take a quick photo with the Blackberry. I need to get out the real camera and learn how to upload multiple photos into a post.

Depends where you drive, like no front licence plate...

Mine maybe 50% or clearer, you tell me from the pic. What I really don't like is the side front/rear being different. Sorry but it really detracts from the look.

I have 35% on sides and back, and run without front license plate, both things are illegal in WI but
I've never been stopped. There are lots of cars around here with darker tint than mine. I carry my front license plate in the trunk.

Yes, in FL its 28% max up front, and I like the same tint all around,
I hate SUV's and such that come with dark tinted rear windows and no tint on front ones.
As for film types, 3M is still the best, IMO, I have Carbon, which is non metallic, so it won't interfere with radio.
