Bloody Awesome (and some big pics)
I guess everyone who is here has already or is about to get one so I guess this is pointless, but here are a few days worth of feelings moving on from a beloved stage 2+ Imola B5 S4 that has served me well for six and a bit years.
Woof.
The sound, the brakes the handling - all far exceeding my troubled expectations.
There isn't the kick in the pants that the chipped and downpiped turbo will give you, but even in babying-in mode, this seems to be one smooth and sweet engine that pulls like a freight train. And I happen to own a locomotive, so I suppose I can make a silly comparison like that.
The gearbox is a massive improvement over the B5 and of course the sound, particularly with Mr S switched on, is just intoxicating - a sewing machine whizz with a thumping bass line.
The B5 had H&R suspension on 17s and I was a bit worried about the RS4 on 19s as the better half didn't like the SLK with AMG suspension we just sold. The RS4 is a perfect mix though - I think it is softer (more comfortable) in day to day use than the S4, but hiff her into a tight corner and throw in some undulations or rough stuff and it's night and day. And the brakes are just phenomonal.
Quite unfair to compare a July 99 build car to one fresh off the boat, but the RS is just so toight, as Goldfinger would say.
The seats are awesome, I wouldn't mind the interior a shade darker and am not in love with the carbon interior as much as the RS6's with it's fancy glittery wire inlays, but whatayagonna do (mmm piano). Even the fish-snout and brushed aluminium trim has grown on me ...but that steering wheel has to go. As do the girlyman V8 badges. Other than that, after spending so much money and time tweaking the S4, I don't think I'll be doing much to this one. It just seems so well sorted.
So I'm loving every minute. Except that I'm out of town right now. For the record, 49 miles on delivery, P Zeros. Audi of Smithtown, LI, NY, who seem to have the best service department there is.

Grats!!! looks awesome...now about that locomotive...
what do you mean with "own a locomotive"? how do you get to own a locomotive? where do you drive it? what top speed? braking?
Just kidding...probably for commercial reasons, i guess. :-)
Again, AWESOME ride!

Congratulations on the car though. Those are awesome pictures. I'm still waiting on mine since I was silly enough to order sunroof delete.

Sweet... you have good taste...
I have the same car... Your front end shots really bring out the badass look of the RS4 - anyone who thinks the new 3 series looks better needs to lay off the acid. Ever since BMW went with an american body deisgner (I forget his name)... well, their cars look... american. The infamous Audi grille is starting to really grow on me - but I think it's because it's put in perspective by the the aggressive spoiler and muscular front quarter panels. Italians are the best body designers - too bad they can't make reliable cars.

What will be the most powerful beast in my stable - 50 year old rusty diesel-electric locomotive
<center><img src="http://www.kiwibonds.com/dg2376/out4header.JPG"></center><p>Actually it's a spare-time, long-distance project sitting in a museum in New Zealand being restored as time, money and helpers permit.
Get this - it's powered by a massive 6 cyl turbocharged lump - each cyl is 10x11 INCHES - producing a walloping 750 hp of throbbing power that could barely pull the skin of a custard. So engine design has come a long way in 50 years!
Maybe I should chip it........ <ul><li><a href="http://www.kiwibonds.com/dg2376/dg2376.html">toy train</a></li></ul>
