there is a race with an rs4 imola yellow racing the m3 on you tube. i have to say im a little disturbed after watching it. the m3 cls just pulled away from the rs4 and the rs4 i hate to say got smoked! what is with that! i have an imola yellow rs4 also, and right now writing this i am shocked. a 6 cylinder crushed this v8 rs4.i could see a 911 turbo with its v6 crushing the audi but this m3. Is this cls extremely light? and what kind of hp and torque is it pushing. if that happened with the cls, i hate to see the new m3 against our rs4's. Audi better start stepping it up a little . i know the rs4 is almost 4000 pounds but damn. somebody help me here. lol.........

the csl is the extremely light (euro only) stripped down m3, yes very fast.

The RS4 destroys the E46 M3. Period. Test after test. It isn't even close. This car is probably modified, and even if not the CSL is very light and basically a slightly detuned race car. It is not your standard M3.

Off the roll RS4 Pulls for a little than loses.
Out of the hole the RS4 smokes the M3 until 150mph+ they finally let off and the M3 was almost even. In the twisties the RS4 pulled away alot.

The moral of the story is that all M3's will be driven by mediocre drivers who think they are cool and have no clue how to launch the car.

I'd be hard pressed to think it would go any other way. The CLS is limited extremely production, as in there are only about 1400 or so ever produced. It was created because race teams that use the M3 wanted cars stock from BMW that were basically ready for the race track.

The new M3 is about as fast as the RS4. The CSL is faster than both, even though it's got huge horse power deficit (360HP vs 414HP) compared to both cars, it's still about as fast a Ferrari 360 spider, due to it's super light weight, it does cost well over $100K, though.

In short, you have nothing to worry about from the new M3, it's not the same as a CSL which is faster and is for all intents a purposes a race car.

thank you for giving me a liitle history behind the csl m3. im a little embarrased not knowing about the car. as long as i dont get smoked by a new m3, not to worry i guess.

M3 CS (ok, not CSL but still more than the regular E46 M3) vs. RS4 (looks like an early prototype w 18 inch wheels). The test was broadcast on Fifth Gear over a year ago. They test multiple facets like a drag race from standstill, the ability to drift, as well as run around a track. Tiff Needell and Fifth Gear are legitimate reviewers. The RS4 smokes the E46 M3 CS in the drag race. Not even close. Interestingly, whenever you see these videos posted by the M guys, do you ever hear commentary from the RS4 driver? No. Why? Maybe it's a BMW guy sandbagging? I'm not sure. Take what you see that's posted by BMW guys with a grain of salt.
