Default brake pads & rotors

I currently have 20,000 miles. I'm planning on going on the track with my existing pads/rotors and then replacing the pads after. I'm considering the Porterfields R4-S high performance street and autocross. Does anyone have experience with these?

Also any suggestions on rotors?

Thanks.

Default That is just silly!

RS4 comes with properly sized brakes that work great on that car. Yes, track pad selection will need to get better, but Alcon pad selection is not great either.

I am also sure that with time you will be able to buy aftermarket rotors if the cost of OEM ones is too high.

With Alcons you are definitely downgrading on the rotor, OEM Brembo designed rotor is truly floating design with very nice McLaren anti-rattle technology.

Check out the link here, and especially the last sentence:

Putting on Alcons makes as much sense as doing an engine swap with the new V8 BMW M3.

Default Tomasz... lets be serious now.

the OEM discs on the RS4 have a nice float system but thats about it. They are non directional, heavy and have a larger than necessary annulus.

Our Alcon discs are TRUE race discs. They feature long curve directional vanes for better efficiency, double heat treated and dynamically balanced for long track life and repeatable, impressive performance lap after lap.

We are also able to shave over 10 lbs per corner of unsprung rotational weight running our LARGER system on the B7 RS4.

more info here

Default

And with all the brake problems popping up on the RS4 I'm not so sure I'd track them either.

Default OK, I stand corrected on the rotors.

What about offering just a rotor upgrade for the RS4 users?

Default I missed that. Maybe the well tuned S4 is still the way to go.

Though you do not get the 8K+ redline, and fenders. Though it seems that the brakes and suspension Audi can keep.

Default What is the cost of the Alcon system?

By the way, I'm not planning on continually tracking the RS4. It's just that I'm going to Laguna Seca, which is a lot of miles to add to my GT2, so I decided to take the RS4 up.
