Clear cornered finally.

? Plenty of us have coated bulbs w/ no issues. Remember they are only blinking, not
always on (assuming you VAG the headlights to r.o.w.) I've yet to read about the painted bulbs causing heat issues in this particular application.
And this summer will mark 2 years with these bulbs so I'm guessing they are okay.

Maybe the signal bulb with ROW coding is OK, but
I know of three RS4 owners that melted their housings with the Hoen Chromium DRL/city light bulbs and one that complained of what they though was heat caused distortion from a silver coated signal bulb, but the US vs. ROW coding or the bulb brand may be the difference there. I am glad to hear you have been trouble-free.

Interesting. I definitely wouldn't try it with the DRL bulbs because I know they get hot
but after 5 years of running Philips Silvervision bulbs in my B5 turn signals and going on two years with these on the B7 I'm not too worried about bulbs that just blink.
Do you happen to know if, in the cases where melting happened, the bulbs were of a significantly higher wattage? Seems like, intuitively, that would be a bigger issue than a painted bulb.

Seems likely people are getting the higher wattage versions.
I've seen reference to the 1156 bulb here which is 27w, where as the stock bulb is 21w for the turn signal. I bought the 1156 and the 7506 which is 21w to match the stock rating. With the euro-coding I've been running the 1156 and don't anticipate any problems.
