Considering buying a used RS4 from USA - need some advice on choosing...
I am considering buying a used RS4 for exporting it "back" to EU (they are so much more expensive here in EU). The tricky part is of course, how not buy a beaten one with full of surprises. What is the best way to have it checked from the distance? Where would you start looking? Maybe on this forum? Are auctions a very bad idea? A veteran used-car salesman called Burke Leon (author of The Insiders Guide to Buying a New or Used Car) keeps sending me his email newsletters regarding auctions, has a decent style, once this showed up in his list:
2007 RS 4 8G 4DSN 6 PS PB AC HT AWD 19,391miles GREY $55,000
2007 RS 4 8G 4DSN 6 PS PB AC HT AWD 8,077miles RED $53,500
Should i consider such possibilities or not at all? Thanks in advance for all the insight.
PS: I am aware that here in the EU the US warranty might not be accepted. Did you know guys that cars.com and autotrader.com does not load from here??? I guess European IPs are blocked since the USD is so low. Amazing. Had to go through anonymouse.org etc. to fake a U.S. IP address just to be able to load the pages.

There was an article in the WSJ about that trend.
They mentioned 2 companies, one in Canada called Akinvest, which runs Exporttrader.com, a secondhand-car-auction site that caters only to clients outside the USA and Canada. Another company mentioned was Laureen Impex, but they handle more expensive cars, on a site called Importauto-USA.com
Also mentioned was a firm in Germany that handles homologation of US-spec cars to Eu standards, called FW Kalkofen, GbR.

Try something like...
http://www.carchex.com/
There are no guarantees of course, but getting an independent inspection should ease your mind and help avoid disaster. The warranty will definitely be void if you plan on doing warranty work in the EU. It is only valid for NA.
I'd get the Estate over there if I were in your shoes...mmm, i likey the wagon

I'd line up several options and make the choosing my summer holiday, then...
...after checking the clutch and inspecting for DRC leaks, drive the chosen one to Maryland or another east coast port and put it on a RORO ship...several years ago a trip across the Atlantic was only about USD600 if you drop off the car at the port and pick it up at the port in Europe. And what a great summer holiday story you'd have!

My friend's side business is to buy and ships cars to Europe
He charges $500-$1000 for a car found, purchased and shipped.
If you want to ship it yourself he's still very much help in finding car and negotiating the price.
I can hook you up if you'd like. Email me if interested.
