Dealership checks on oil leak and two other things
I went to a dealership to check an oil leak on all shock absorbers, replace a speaker grille without a Bose emblem in a driver side door to one with it, and adjust the height of a muffler because a right side muffler from a bumper hangs lower than one of a left side. The technician told me that an oil leak on front shock absorbers is just sweating. Based on TSB (Release date Jul 17, 2008), it says that "A light film of dried oil traces on the pipe beneath the dust guard shows condensation," and "The technical properties of the shock absorber are not impaired by condensation. No repair is necessary." He wiped all oil strains out. I checked the oil leak when I backed to home, and I did not find any oil leak at that time. The speaker grille with the Bose emblem was replaced and it looks good. The height of the muffler can not be adjusted because it is already fixed by welding.

Your sig pics show a typical leaking shock. "Sweating" is pure BS. Keep an eye on addtl oil leakage and ride quality. Good luck.

Great. Now AoA is just going to claim this is "normal."
Not that we haven't seen that move before in previous Audi's. Oil consumption? That is "normal."
Shocks don't "sweat" oil. It seems like even a small leak in the high pressure DRC system would cause problems.

condensation is atmospheric moisture that has condensed because of cold. Oil on shocks does not
appear out of the atmosphere. That's total bull**** and I would call them on this. If it isn't leaking, where did the fluid come from. We all know that when there is condensation on a ice filled glass, it isn't the water coming through the glass to the other side.

Not disputing an issue, but Bilstein says the same thing for their warranty...
A fine film of oil is normal<ul><li><a href="http://www.bilstein.com/warranty.php?PHPSESSID=275d353b6a52807ade9b7b60afa e3387">Scroll down to the table.</a></li></ul>

"an oil leak on front shock absorbers is just sweating."
Okay. I read this and hear a little bell going off. That bell is my bullsh_t alarm. It has never failed me in the past.
I am a physician and have a great deal of scientific knowledge. I am therefore qualified to make the following statement with the utmost certainty. Metal doesn't sweat. It just doesn't. People sweat. Cars don't sweat.
If oil that is supposed to be inside is now on the outside, IT LEAKED !!
As an aside, I did use the "little bell" line once before when dealing with a service agent who was telling me a **** and bull story about a problem with a prior Audi (A6). It worked wonders to get my point across.
