Did some poking around... can anyone explain the air box on this car
Always looking for extra performance. Now this air box is a very interesting. The cold-air ducting on the top comes off without tools. There's a plastic gravel-strainer-type filter that pops out. Mine had some dogwood tree fuzz. It looks like that pre-finter could really restrict airflow if it isn't cleaned regularly. Some Q's to those who know these things:
1) Does the entire airbox need to be removed to get at the paper filter?
2) What's that ~ 1" x 2" side hole for (goes into the fender)?
3) Why is there a (closed) flap on the bottom port (~3" round) and what activates the flap?
4) Does anyone make an aftermarket cold-air solution yet for the B7 RS4?

Pictures please. It would help for those who have not poked or own one of these babies...
The one in the fender thing, all Audis have it. I suspect and that's a guess on my part, that the hole serves as a by-pass in case the main entry gets blocked but it might serve another purpose too under normal circumstance.

What does this hole on the top of the intake give access to? Why not just remove it instead?
